CAMPING GETAWAYS
The experience of spending time with your family and sleeping together under the stars can be some of the most memorable trips for any family. Camping holds a warm place in our hearts and we always enjoy it- whether a planned multi-day excursion or a spur of the moment overnight in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, which sits just down the road from us.
Each of the destinations below have nice camping options and plenty to do for the entire family. In the mountains, by a lake, river, or canyon, you can find all of that and more within 3 hours of Knoxville.
Grayson Highlands State Park in Virginia is one of my favorite places in the world. I love the mountain balds with wild ponies grazing, the easy access to great trails with amazing views, and the high elevation of the park. The tent camping at Grayson Highlands, however, isn’t great. The sites are too small and close to each other. The work around? Stay in a yurt! Yurt 2, also known as “Split Rock” was our home for 2 nights during the first week of June. Read my full review.
